Publication Ethics

ALTASIA: Jurnal Pariwisata Indonesia is committed to maintaining academic integrity, transparency, fairness, and ethical standards in scholarly publishing. All editors, reviewers, and authors are expected to uphold responsible publication practices and comply with the journal's publication ethics policies. The following responsibilities are established to safeguard the quality, credibility, and integrity of the journal's publications.

Publication Ethics for Editors

Publication Decisions: Editors are responsible for deciding which manuscripts are accepted for publication in ALTASIA. Editorial decisions must be based on the manuscript's originality, academic quality, methodological rigor, clarity, significance, and relevance to the journal's Focus and Scope. Decisions must not be influenced by the authors' race, gender, religion, nationality, ethnicity, or political views.

Fair and Objective Evaluation: Editors must evaluate manuscripts fairly and impartially, focusing on their scholarly merit. All manuscripts must undergo an initial editorial screening before being considered for double-blind peer review.

Confidentiality: Editors must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and related information. Manuscript details must not be disclosed to unauthorized individuals, except where disclosure is required for legitimate editorial purposes or by applicable law.

Conflicts of Interest: Editors must disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest that could affect their judgment. Editors with such conflicts must withdraw from handling the relevant manuscript and arrange for an independent editor to oversee the process.

Research and Publication Misconduct: Editors must respond appropriately to allegations of plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, duplicate publication, and other ethical violations. Concerns must be investigated fairly and confidentially, and appropriate action must be taken when misconduct is established.

Corrections and Retractions: Editors are responsible for maintaining the integrity of the published scholarly record. When significant errors or ethical concerns are identified, editors must assess the evidence and determine whether a correction, expression of concern, or retraction is necessary.

Publication Ethics for Reviewers

Objectivity and Professional Conduct: Reviewers must evaluate manuscripts objectively, independently, and critically within their areas of expertise. Reviews must be constructive, supported by clear academic arguments, and focused on improving the quality of the manuscript.

Confidentiality: Manuscripts assigned for review are confidential documents. Reviewers must not share, reproduce, distribute, or use unpublished information from a manuscript for personal or professional advantage. Confidential manuscripts must not be uploaded to external AI tools or services that could compromise confidentiality unless explicitly authorized under the journal's policies.

Timeliness: Reviewers should complete their assessments within the agreed deadline. If they are unable to review a manuscript or require additional time, they must inform the editor promptly.

Conflicts of Interest: Reviewers must disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest arising from personal, professional, financial, institutional, competitive, or collaborative relationships. Reviewers should decline an assignment if a conflict could compromise their impartiality.

Acknowledgment of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant publications that have not been cited by the authors when appropriate. They must inform the editor of suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication, questionable research practices, or other potential ethical concerns.

Review Recommendations: Reviewers may recommend acceptance, minor revisions, major revisions, or rejection. Their recommendations must be supported by clear and objective reasoning. The final publication decision remains the responsibility of the editor.

Prohibition of Unauthorized Use: Reviewers must not use ideas, data, methods, or findings obtained through peer review for their own benefit or for the benefit of third parties without appropriate authorization.

Publication Ethics for Authors

Originality and Manuscript Standards: Authors must submit original work that has not been published previously or submitted simultaneously to another journal. Manuscripts must comply with ALTASIA's author guidelines and official article template. Research findings must be presented accurately, honestly, and clearly.

Plagiarism and Proper Citation: Authors must acknowledge all sources, ideas, data, and quotations used in their manuscripts. Plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and the unattributed use of other people's work are prohibited. ALTASIA uses Turnitin or an equivalent plagiarism detection tool to assist in identifying textual similarities. The journal applies a similarity index threshold of below 24%. However, the similarity score alone does not determine whether plagiarism has occurred; the editorial team must assess the similarity report and the context of the matching text.

Authorship and Contributions: Authorship must reflect substantial intellectual contributions to the research. All listed authors must approve the final manuscript and agree to its submission to ALTASIA. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all eligible contributors are appropriately acknowledged and that all authors approve the submitted version.

Research Integrity: Authors must report their methods, data, and findings accurately. Data fabrication, data falsification, misleading reporting, and other forms of research misconduct are unacceptable. Authors must comply with applicable research ethics requirements, including obtaining ethical approval and informed consent where necessary.

Duplicate and Concurrent Submission: Authors must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to multiple journals. Any substantial overlap with previously published work must be disclosed to the editor and appropriately cited.

Acknowledgment of Sources: Authors must provide accurate and complete references for the sources that support their research. Information obtained through private communications or confidential materials must not be used without appropriate permission.

Conflicts of Interest and Funding Disclosure: Authors must disclose financial, professional, personal, or institutional relationships that could influence their research or its interpretation. Relevant funding sources and the role of funders must also be disclosed where applicable.

Declaration of Artificial Intelligence Use: Authors who use generative AI tools in preparing their manuscripts must disclose such use in accordance with ALTASIA's AI Declaration policy. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and validity of all manuscript content, including content generated or modified with AI assistance. AI tools cannot be listed as authors.

Copyright and Permissions: Authors must comply with ALTASIA's copyright and licensing policies. They are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material where required and ensuring that their manuscripts do not infringe the intellectual property rights of others.

Errors in Published Articles: If authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, they must promptly notify the editor and cooperate in determining the appropriate corrective action, including correction or retraction where necessary.

Compliance with Publication Ethics

ALTASIA expects all editors, reviewers, and authors to comply with these ethical standards throughout the submission, review, and publication processes. Suspected violations will be assessed fairly and confidentially. Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, the journal may request clarification, require revisions, reject a manuscript, publish a correction, retract an article, or take other appropriate action in accordance with its editorial policies.
