Abstract

This Community Service Program aims to strengthen digital literacy, awareness of internet ethics, and students’ legal understanding of the dangers of hate speech in cyberspace. The activity was initiated in response to the growing use of social media among children and adolescents, which is not always balanced by the ability to distinguish freedom of expression, ethical communication, and unlawful conduct. The program targeted adolescents at Sekolah Minggu Buddha Bodhi Karaniya, Batam. Its implementation consisted of observation, material preparation, interactive counseling, discussion, question-and-answer sessions, educational quizzes, and evaluation. The materials covered the definition and forms of hate speech on social media, its social and psychological impacts on victims, principles of digital ethics, and legal sanctions under relevant laws and regulations. The results showed that participants were actively involved and understood the substance of the material well. This was reflected in their enthusiasm during discussions, the success of four out of five randomly selected students in answering evaluative questions correctly, and positive feedback from the supervising teacher. After the activity, participants showed greater awareness of using social media carefully, protecting personal information, respecting others’ rights, and avoiding hateful content. Thus, this PkM activity contributed to shaping more responsible digital behavior and strengthening collaboration among students, teachers, and the Sunday school partner to create a safe, inclusive, educational, and civilized digital space.
