Microworld Explore: Edukasi Keanekaragaman Protozoa dan Alga Air Tawar pada Siswa SMA di Kota Batam

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan siswa SMA dalam mengenali keanekaragaman protozoa dan alga air tawar melalui pendekatan pembelajaran berbasis laboratorium (ngelab bareng). Metode yang digunakan adalah pelatihan yang dipadukan dengan demonstrasi dan praktik langsung (hands-on training), meliputi penyampaian materi, percontohan penggunaan mikroskop, pembuatan preparat, serta identifikasi mikroorganisme dari sampel air tawar lokal. Evaluasi dilakukan melalui pre-test dan post-test, observasi keterampilan, serta respon peserta. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman konseptual dan keterampilan mikroskopis siswa. Peserta mampu mengoperasikan mikroskop, menyiapkan preparat, serta mengidentifikasi berbagai mikroorganisme, antara lain Eunotia arcus, Gomphonema sp., Cosmarium sp., Spirogyra sp., Navicula sp., serta protozoa seperti Philodina sp., Trinema enchelys, Euglypha rotunda, dan Arcella sp. Keberadaan organisme tersebut juga memberikan indikasi awal kondisi ekologis perairan yang diamati. Pendekatan pelatihan berbasis praktik terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan literasi sains dan keterampilan proses siswa secara kontekstual. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, disarankan agar kegiatan serupa dilaksanakan secara berkelanjutan dengan penguatan kolaborasi antara perguruan tinggi dan sekolah, serta integrasi praktikum berbasis lingkungan ke dalam pembelajaran biologi. Selain itu, pengembangan metode analisis yang lebih komprehensif diperlukan untuk meningkatkan akurasi identifikasi dan pemahaman keanekaragaman mikroorganisme.
