As artificial intelligence increasingly mediates everyday interaction, communication risks becoming more fragmented and reactive. This study examines how an 8-week Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Life (MBCT-L) program shapes interpersonal communication and relational well-being, interpreted through Active Empathic Listening (AEL) — sensing, processing, and responding with empathy. Using a qualitative phenomenological design, semi-structured interviews with 18 participants (aged 23–73) were analyzed via reflexive thematic analysis. Five themes emerged: listening with presence, shifting from automatic reaction to intentional response, navigating conflict with awareness, relational transfer across contexts, and embodied awareness. Findings show mindfulness strengthens each AEL stage, moving communication from automaticity toward attentive, compassionate engagement that extends across family, workplace, and community settings. Results suggest mindfulness-based interventions offer a viable pathway to more inclusive human connection; future research should explore long-term and cross-cultural outcomes.
