ABSTRACT

This study is entitled "The Effectiveness of Law Number 32 of 2009 About Protection and Management Living Environment regarding to the Laundry Business Activities in Batam City". The environment and humans have a unique and close relationship. Between each other influencing each other, then it can be interpreted that a good and healthy environment also reflects a good and healthy community life, but the opposite can also be the case if the relationship does not take care of it properly.

This study discusses the problems in which Laundry business activities can damage the human environment, especially in causing water pollution and how Law Number 32 of 2009 regulates these problems. This type of research is empirical legal research, the type of data collection used in this study is data collection based on interviews and also field studies directly.

The results of this study are the government of Batam City paid less attention to the problem of laundry waste as one of the causes of water pollution in Batam City because in Batam Mayor Regulation No. 13 of 2010 regarding Guidelines for Disturbing Permits and Wastewater Disposal Permits Article 2 Paragraph 2 does not record Laundry Business as one of the businesses or activities that has the potential to cause disruption to the environment even though with the increasing number of laundry businesses in the city of Batam, it is enough to cause environmental pollution if there is no regulation of laundry activities or businesses that have waste. Effectiveness of legislation related to a healthy and good environment, especially regarding water pollution due to laundry business activities in Batam City is not implemented properly.
